Add some fresh herbs, spices or dry cheese to flavor this basic dough.

  • Author: Evo America
  • Servings: 6
  • Temperature: Medium

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups flour (unbleached or wholewheat)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup water, warm
  • as needed canola oil

Directions

  1. Whisk the flour and salt together in a bowl. Stir in the warm water using a wooden spoon. You want the dough to just pull away from the sides of the bowl. Add additional flour if the dough is too sticky and add additional water if the dough is too dry. Continue to mix the dough for three minutes. Portion the dough into six equal portions and round them with your hands into balls. Cover the dough balls with a damp cloth and allow them to sit for twelve minutes. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough balls into eight-inch circles. You may want to dust your work area with flour to prevent the dough from sticking.
  2. Light the Evo grill and on medium heat and lightly oil the cook surface with canola oil.
  3. Cook the pita breads on both sides until they are lightly browned. Remove the finished pita from the grill and place in a bowl covered with a towel to maintain moisture. Serve immediately.
